Papers, 1923-1948.

Collection consists primarily of letters from De la Mare, typed and manuscript. Six are to Graham Greene and include thanks for the copy of "Babbling Brook," wishes of success for Graham's poetry, and comments on BRIGHTON ROCK. He comments that a book of his own poetry is being sent to Greene, and, in a later letter, comments on its refusal for consideration in some sort of project. Two letters were written to J.E. Hodgson recalling a conversation they had had at the Johnson Club. Two letters were written to the headmistress of a school. De la Mare gives an analysis and glowing compliments for the poetry of one Anne Brown, a young girl attending the school. Two friendly letters were written to "Charles." They concern attending a dinner and the christening of De la Mare's fourth grand-child by Walter Giles, who was a relative and Bishop of Salisbury. He comments on the courteous children he met at a school Christmas party in Bethnal Green. One letter is to Dr. J. Duane Upton concerning the Drake Memorial and also included is the typescript of a poem entitled "The Enigma," initialed by De la Mare.
